Fitness Programs Overview

Join MBS Fitness in one of our Fitness Programs and achieve your full potential.  Our programs will help you reach your fitness goals, whether you are just starting a fitness routine or have been training for many years.

MBS Fitness offers a range of cost-effective, individualized programs for people at all levels of fitness, from the sedentary to the experienced marathon runner.  With individualized group Fitness Programs and private Personal Training services, MBS Fitness is sure to meet your needs and start you on your way to a healthy lifestyle and personal achievement.

The fitness programs include:

  • The Beginning Fitness Program is developed for the overweight or sedentary adult either thinking about how to get into shape or just starting an exercise routine.   In-person coaching participants meet weekly in an exercise group for instruction and education on fitness, nutrition and health topics.
     
  • Murphy's Track Club is for all individuals wanting to increase their fitness level, ranging from walkers to experienced runners.  Runners and walkers complete a weekly interval training program designed to increase their VO2 max--the volume of oxygen your body can process indicating your fitness level.  The Track Club is an integral part of the Marathon Training Programs.
     
  • The 5K/10K Race Program is designed for individuals training to complete their fastest shorter- distance race, up to 8 miles.  Runners and walkers complete a weekly interval training program, as well as trail running to increase their V02 max and overall speed. 
     
  • The Marathon Training Programs are geared toward individuals training for their first marathon and for experienced runners looking to better their Personal Record (PR).  The programs deliver proven results.  In 2003, 36% of participants that raced bested their personal record for an average improvement of over 12 minutes each. In 2002, four of 16 participants were first time marathoners.  Five of the runners broke their personal records by a combined 158 minutes (that's an average improvement of over 31 minutes each!).  While the majority of the runners ran the Dublin City Marathon, others ran the Chicago, Long Beach and New York City Marathons.  In 2001, 17 of 19 bested their PR for a combined improvement of over 9 hours or on average over 31 minutes each.

Each program offers the following key features and benefits:

  • Individualized coaching and instruction customized for each person --  The programs are delivered in groups small enough for personalized attention from the a coach.  Your personal fitness level is evaluated before starting a Fitness Program and throughout your training.  Based on your fitness level, you work with the coach to set realistic and achievable goals. A program is customized to meet your goals and incremental performance targets are set.  Progress to your goals and targets are tracked and analyzed regularly, so adjustments can be made to optimize your performance.

  • Based on proven scientific principles and theories of physiology, bio-mechanics and nutrition -- The programs utilize your scientific data from fitness analyses, such as strength, bio-mechanics, metabolic rate and VO2 fitness level, and combines it with proven theories based on research and statistics of individuals and athletes to develop a program that predicts and maximizes  your success.  These principles are used to determine how hard and how often you should be training, what and how much you should be eating, and the length of your recovery time.

  • Delivered by an experienced and proven coaching staff - The programs are developed and led by Olympic marathoner and coach Marie Murphy.  Coach Murphy brings the experiences from her own training to become an Olympic athlete and to maintain existing competitive standing.  As a professional athlete for over 20 years and a coach for over 13 years, Coach Murphy brings experience and knowledge you can trust.
