Marie's programme - The Murphy Programme - was picked up by the Irish Cancer Society in 2010. Five studies were carried out on Breast (3), Bowel (1), and Prostrate (1) cancer. The results of the first three studies, The Murphy Programme : The Irish Experience of Delivering Physical Activity for Cancer Survivors has since been published and acknowledged by the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) 2012. Please see AICR abstract and Poster.
Marie has recently taken up a position as Consultant Exercise & Nutrition Specialist for the Irish Osteoporosis Society (IOS). Using the Murphy (MET's) Programme, Marie will conduct studies for patients diagnosed with Osteopenia and / or Osteoporosis. Marie's overall aims are the same as those of the IOS - to significantly decrease the amount of people who are losing their independence and dying prematurely from a condition that is preventable and treatable. See Irish Osteoporosis Society for more information.
Marie Murphy is a Fitness Specialist and Sports Nutritionist with over 20 years' experience in the Health and Fitness Industry. Marie also co-founded the Susan Love MD Marathon Training Programme with world renowned breast cancer researcher and NY Times best selling author, Dr. Susan Love, in 2002. The marathon training programme raised funds to benefit the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation, which is dedicated to finding a way to prevent breast cancer.
